What a beautiful book! I highly recommend this one for any and all! Such a quiet and meaningful story! Just blew me away!

A truly beautiful book, a small glittering gem: simple prose, spare elegance, a tender and moving story. It’s hard to write a review without tearing up. (Don't worry. There's plenty that will make you smile or laugh out loud.) And many others have provided the basic story here. I don’t need to reiterate. Just read it. At 179 pages, it’s easy to read in a sitting. And you won’t want to put it down, so just set aside the time.

Oh, Kent Haruf, I knew I was going to miss you. This is the author I fell in love with after reading "Plainsong." This book evokes so many emotions from one tiny volume. A tender story full of so much love and so many different kinds of love. At the beginning of the book, I was ecstatic to listen to one character reach out to another and propose a "heck with 'em" attitude about the path they were setting out on.

I thought I had no interest in this book, but I read it in one sitting and just adored it. It's a beautiful gentle romance about two elderly people who've survived various tragedies and disappointments and now seek a less lonely life. Sparely written, without a wasted word. A couple of side characters feel a bit cliched, but the central pair feel very much like real people. I can't do this book justice in a short writeup, but it is absolutely worth your time.

A beautiful, quiet novel on audio. It's about two elderly people who forge a deep connection and develop a companionship that others outside of the relationship don't understand. I really enjoyed this book and will be reading more Haruf for sure.

I once heard Our Souls at Night described as “quietly devastating” - that pretty much sums it up. I just bawled through the last 20 minutes.

This novel is Kent Haruf's final gift to his readers and a wonderful gift it is. In his inimitable style, the story is simply written but tenderly packed with beauty and emotion. I found it impossible not to feel sad and nostalgic as I read this book, knowing it was his last. Yet the story and characters are often funny and hopeful. Haruf fans will love it.

I rarely read a book in one day anymore. It was a normal occurrence as a teenager to stay up all night reading. But not anymore.
I was trying to decide what book I could read to complete my goodreads goal. No pressure, right? 🥹 I figured I had 6 days to read this book, no sweat. I read Plainsong and Eventide years ago, so I was familiar with this author's beautiful, sparse prose. Little did I know I would start this at 5:00 am this morning and 3 cups of coffee later I would be finished. I didn't ...more
