What Members Thought

I'd been desperate to read this book since I first read about it and it absolutely delivered for me! It was a fantastic reading experience. First and foremost - can that cover be any more WONDERFUL! I love how Cleave is able to address some pretty heavy issues in a way that is very readable and approachable. Although I preferred the sections from Little Bee's point of view, I was really taken with the entire novel. I felt it was extremely well written and Cleave was able to get me to truly care

I really enjoyed this book. I thought that the commentary on human nature and how we treat outsiders is spot on. I also liked that the story took place in Britain rather than the US so that I could gain a different perspective on how a country treats its refugees.
The story is told in two voices, Little Bee's and Sarah's, both of whom are awesome characters even though they come from very different backgrounds.

A truly amazing story! Sad, funny, heart-wrenching, heartwarming, inspiring.
One thing I'm unclear on is the ending/how it ended. Are we to make up our own or was there an implied end and I missed it?
(for SBC 'spring word in title' category)

This novel about the life-changing intersection of the lives of a young Nigerian girl and an English couple was an emotional read, however it failed to live up to the marketing hype surrounding it. The first half of the novel was compelling but the second half fell flat, particularly Sarah's story. Little Bee's voice was so much more believable and compelling.
