That, combined with comparisons of Diane Setterfield's storytelling techniques to that of the Bront"s, makes this debut novel a publicity coup of sorts. Certainly, The Thirteenth Tale__a family drama, romance, bildungsroman, mystery, and ghost story__intrigued most critics. Yet not all agreed that the novel lives up to the hype. I just couldn't finish this book. I really tried -- 120 pages of trying and I couldn't stay awake to read it. I thinkt he problem was that I didn't care about the characters or the story enough to plod on. The descriptions seemed contrived and excessive while the story itself didn't move much. The March Family puts the "fun" in dysfunctional. Troubled twins, unexplained occurances, destruction, mysterious comings and goings and........."ghosts"?

If you are looking for a transition book between two heavy reads, The Thirteenth Tale would be a good choice.

Already read book but when I saw the audio on the shelf at the library I decided to borrow it. I really enjoyed the narrators. Really made the story come to life. Loved it just as much as when I read it.
