I really enjoyed this sweet story about a Professor, his Housekeeper and the Housekeeper's son. It was very simply but beautifully written. I enjoyed watching the relationships among the characters grow throughout the book. It's a fairly quick and easy read but there is so much to the story beyond just the words. It's a beautiful story that I think anyone would appreciate. It's a very refreshing book - simplistic and focusing on themes of family, friendship, unity and symmetry. I really enjoyed ...more

"Amicable numbers" -- loved this -- the weaving of metaphor and theme and character with the wonderful intricacies of mathematics, and though I do not understand all of those intricacies, the author has enabled the reader to appreciate the connections throughout this poignant work. I enjoy slim books which pack a punch through simple prose and original thought. This book reads like a poem. Ogawa uses math to illuminate human relationships & universal literary themes. A well crafted novel.

A beautifully written story of the relationship that develops between a young housekeeper, her 11 year-old son and a math professor. The professor suffered a brain injury and has a short-term memory that only lasts 80 minutes.
