"Mystery" with lots of literary references. The characters' names and places are puns or copped for effect. I'm sure I missed some jokes due to not having read all the literature to which the author refers. Greatly enjoyed it, nonetheless, and will pick up the next in the series.

2023 Re-read via audiobook. Wonderful reader; highly recommend listening to the series.

Nice to have an unabridged recording of TEA (since the first was abridged). Didn't like the reader, though; I wish the original reader had been available since she had a better range of voices and accents.

Added on re-read: Still just as fun as ever. This is also the first time I realized that this is a retelling of Persuasion in some ways.

I had never heard of this book until the Rory goodreads club picked it as the companion read to February's Jane Eyre. This book is funny, unique and very clever as Fforde creates an interesting SpecOps world with Thursday Next, her interesting family and the man who got away. Oh, and in-between, there's vampires, book thieves, the Crimean War and of course, Miss Jane Eyre. Read the Bronte novel first. It will help you to better appreciate this story, and you'll be able to avoid the numerous spo ...more
