I found the writing style at the beginning part of the book to be clunky (and it wasn't the use of "he" either). However, once I became used to it, the story really took off for me. Like the Romanovs, I also find the Tudors to be a fascinating group of people, and frankly, I never get tired of reading about Henry VIII.

Critics were not surprised at Mantel's Booker Prize win, despite stiff competition that included A. S. Byatt's The Children's Book and J. M. Coetzee's Summertime. Well researched story about Thomas Cromwell who counseled Henry VIII while he divorced Katherine of Aragon then married Anne Boelyn. It is not a quick or easy read. Interesting, but at times confusing since there are so many characters - many named Thomas. I was very glad Ms. Mantel included information at the front of the book (including a family tree) which I could refer to when necessary.

I am pretty disappointed, but I just can't seem to get into this one...

Excellent!! If you like reading about Tudor England I highly recommend this book.

As brilliantly imagined as I remembered it being.
