I would have rated this lower if I didn't love apes so much. They were by far the best part about the book. The audio narrator was horrible. The characters (the human ones) in the book were all completely slap-worthy, especially the wussy reporter and his whiny, self-involved wife. UGH. Hated the humans in this book. But the bonobos were sweet and funny.

I didn't mind this book...though it can nowhere near be compared to Water for Elephants. So different! I think some of the more hard-to-take issues in reference to the bonobos were skirted, but that's ok by me. I was suprised by the betrayal by one person in the book. Overall, not bad, just not Gruen's best.
