This emotionally charged novel depicted very well the failure of children to see or understand parents as anything more than the existence of their role as a parent, not as a person with his/her own dreams, talents, and secrets. I enjoyed the premise of this book and liked that there were four narrators. This book will make you think of yourself as a mother and your own mother too. I would give this more stars, but I hated the second person narrative. I found it terribly distracting.

This book is very good. It's about a Korean wife and mother who goes missing. Each part of the book is told from a different perspective of someone in the family. I teared up a few times while reading this book, because the mother reminds me of my mother and her mother, making me realize that there really aren't many mothers who are like them anymore, including me, and I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not. ...more

Touching and melancholy, this story of an aging mother who gets separated from her husband on a train platform and goes missing examines her life and relationships through the viewpoints of her children and husband. Very relatable.
