I have had this one on my shelf for a long time but I am so glad that I've finally gotten to it. Let's start with the cover - um, it's amazing. Next, this is a beautiful, magical novel that is just as beautiful as that cover. I cannot believe this is a debut. This is a quiet character study that doesn't race to the finish line. This unique story of a man who is lonely and takes care of other lonely girls with a questionable future, was interesting and entertaining. I never understood his interest and need to care for them. Other reviews spoke of love but I didn't see it that way. Maybe they were a diversion or an interest to fill a hole that his dead family opened up. I'm not sure he loved the girls though. My lack of understanding doesn't diminish that this is a well written and well worth novel to read/listen.
