I won this book from a contest on Bookreporter (www.Bookreporter.com). Having read, and loved, one other book by this author, Skeletons at the Feast, I was excited to read something new from him.

The Light in the Ruins is very good historical fiction. It takes place around 1942-44 and 11 years later in Italy. It is also a murder mystery. The characters are well written and the story moves well. Chris does the change between time frames very well. The most intriguing part of the book is how the Italian people were pulled between the Partisans and the Nazis. Chris tells a compelling story.

Another phenomenal novel by Chris Bohjalian!
