This was a really intense book that kept me on edge most of the time! Some pretty crazy things happened and I really enjoyed the premise. There were great character relationships and I also loved that there was a lot of focus on the psychological effects of an alien invasion. The only thing that bothered me was the love story aspect.. The 5th wave is probably one of the oldest books on my shelves. I bought this book right when it came out because of all the hype it was getting. I did not think it would take me years to finally pick this book up but it did..

I loved this book, I know by my rating it may not seem like it but it was amazing. Now the reason why I gave the book 4 stars was because, of the way it was written. I loved this book, I know by my rating it may not seem like it but it was amazing. Now the reason why I gave the book 4 stars was because, of the way it was written. Not necessarily the writing style just how some of the parts were in different perspectives. I went into this book thinking I was only going to be reading from Cassie's POV, not anyone else's. When the book changed perspectives and went into Ben's POV, I was so confused and had no idea what was happening until about 10 pages into the part.. I hated how the book changed perspectives.. We also got a part from Cassie's brother POV which was something I was not expecting..I understand why the author did it so we can see what it was like at Camp Haven, but I did not like the way it was done. I think he should have put the name of the character who we were reading from in the beginning of the part. It can get confusing when all of the sudden the character changes, or the writing goes from first person to third person.

I liked all of the characters.. however, I have my suspicions.. I don't know who to trust anymore with all the stuff that happened with Evan.. I already knew who he really was it was kind of obvious.. but the way he explained everything was just weird.. I like Ben so far.. I just feel like there may be a love triangle in the sequel and I am not going to happy if there is.. A love triangle is not necessary in this book.. just let the characters be with the people they are already with. Now onto Ringer.. I just for some reason I feel like she's an alien, or she's working with the aliens.. I just I don't know.. I can't get myself to like her.. I don't know how to feel about her.. I guess I'll find out in book two.

I am going to continue on with this trilogy, it's so fast paced, and so much stuff happens. This book was a little slow in the middle also one of the reasons why I gave it 4 stars. I hope the Infinite Sea is as good as The 5th Wave was, I've heard mixed things about it so we'll see.

I might be so late on this band wagon, I feel like everyone has already read this book. If you haven't read you should give it a shot, it may surprise you, I know it surprised me. ...more

Don't you just love the feeling when you fall completely and utterly in love with a book? I wasn't even half away through when I was already certain that The 5th Wave was one my favourite books. I had high expectations, yet the story still blew me away. In my opinion, this book is flawless, breath-taking and truly spectacular.

Before reading this book, I hadn't read any other books about alien invasions. I'd read one science fiction book but I didn't particularly enjoy it. Before reading this book, I hadn't read any other books about alien invasions. I'd read one science fiction book but I didn't particularly enjoy it. The 5th Wave has not only encouraged me to read more sci-fi novels, but has also inspired me to write my own stories with a similar genre. In the first chapter, Cassie gives an internal monologue on the Aliens - 'The Others'. She believes that The Others are nothing like the stupid aliens we have created in our heads - antenna, green skin, webbed fingers, big eyes, silver spacesuit. In the second chapter, more of our questions are answered as we learn about Cassie. She could possibly be the last human alive on Earth.

"The 1st Wave took out half a million people. The 2nd Wave put that number to shame. The 3rd Wave lasted a little longer... four billion dead. In the 4th Wave, you can't trust that people are still people. And the 5th Wave? No one knows, but it's coming."

There are so many brilliant aspects of this book that I don't know where to start... should I fangirl about Evan Walker? Write a paragraph on the world building? Gush over the poetic language? Go crazy about the twists and cliff-hangers? Tell you all about my adoration for the characters?

I'll start with one of the most interesting elements of the book - the multiple perspectives. Usually, I absolutely LOVE duel POVs, but no more. I have marked many books as DNF due to too many multiple perspectives. However, Yancey managed to keep me engaged the full time. Some people only told their story for a few pages, others were the majority of the book (Cassie). It was a great way of empathising with the characters.

And, man, Rick Yancey can write. The language used had my inner geek squealing with excitement. Simple sentences such as "The sun stabbed down" set the scene so much better. I recommend visiting Goodreads and browsing the author's quotes - there are so many good ones! If you haven't done so already, pick up this book now. Do not ignore this phenomenal read! ...more

I started out reading this for my book club. Wanted to read it before the movie comes out. I switched to audio in the middle of the book. This book is told in multiple points of view. I loved Cassie's story and Sam's story. As for the other characters not so much. I just watched the trailer and I think the movie will probably be better than the book. ...more

Some parts of it were really good, and I couldn't stop reading, but other parts I just didn't care for. I don't really know why because it was action packed throughout, but I just wasn't interested. I'll probably pick up the sequel when it come out though. :) ...more

A clever take on aliens invading our planet. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. This story captivated me and pulled me in. I lived inside the story. This was my first Rick Yancey novel- and will not be my last. The ending was a little abrupt for me, and I can only hope that this will not be the last of Cassie and Evan.

I like how they had two narrators. I haven't come a crossed an audio book yet that has done that. They did a good job creating the characters. ...more
