Overall, I would more accurately give this book a 3.5. My basic problem is that it's been so long since I read the first book that I had forgotten the intricacies of the plot and some of the more minor characters.
This book is long, and given the fact that its main characters are academics, a bit dry and stuffy. I never really bonded with any of them, except in the case of Jack and the dog.
