Initial read in 2013 - DNFd with one star.
Took it up again after relishing 2 books of Stormlight archives and before the third book, Oathbringer, as I was advised to.
Was an enjoyable story, once I understood the tactics behind Sanderson stories.
This one dealt with 2 sisters, from the small land of Idris, one of whom was pledged to the God King of Hallandran, a neighbouring powerful land, but the other one ended up being his wife.

Brandon Sanderson really knows how to unravel his twists. And what plot twists does he conceive! He really is very repetitive in his characterizations, magic systems, plot development, and world building but one thing he really makes sure to be special is the way he pulls the rug off your feet!

Sanderson's checklist before starting a new series:
1) A new world wildly different from ours but still resembling it.
2) A kick-ass magic system with well defined rules.
3) A person well versed in said system.
4) A novice in said system.
5) An unending stream of intrigues which keeps you guessing till the end.
6) A number of plots interwoven with a formidable storyline often spanning centuries.
7) Great characters.
8) Did I mention the magic system?
