The Best Detective work I've ever read. Never thought anything could best And Then There Were None, but here it is!

Vintage Christie .The usual deaths, the usual suspects, red herrings, devious deductions by M. Poirot .I loved the sparring and indulgent intolerance between the brother -sister duo, Dr.Sheppard and Caroline. Could guess at the murderer only in the penultimate pages, fraction of a second before revelation by Poirot in his usual boisterous way.

I just Read The Murder of Roger Ackroyd !! And in the last 2 chapters, I couldnt help but feel getting cheated....As I went on, I thought this guy can be the murderer, but, wait, he has a strong alibi...Ah, then she is the suspicious one..And well, then I again abandon it..But when the plot unravels, I thought I was not supposed to have my 'own little idea !' I was not supposed to see what Poiroit saw, and I was not supposed to assume what he assumed...

This much acclaimed whodunnit is in the list of top 100 mysteries of the century. You read the book and you realize why!
The book wastes no time with building up the story of which some of Poirot's cases are guilty of. The author knows her reader profile and hence voices out loud many twists you might "anticipate" through various characters.
Classic closed room mystery. Quick read. ...more

Agatha Christie is known for providing a stunning end in her books. Sometimes, she surprises you so hard that you found yourself thunderstruck. This is what you feel after reading ‘The Murder of Roger Ackroyd’, alongside ‘Murder on the Orient Express’, ‘And Then There were None’ and many other titles. The endings in these books will take you by surprise and you will start pulling your hair. At the same time, you will laugh at yourself and realize what a good mystery writer Agatha really is.

One of Christie's best, a very ingenious plot. I had read this book many years ago, however didn't really remember much of it when I picked it up again. Apart from the brilliant plot, I liked the narrative of Dr.Sheppard, the witty lines at places and above all Poirot's method in this book.
Christie is like this magician, you will see what she wants you to see and go where she wants you to go. You can recognize some of the red herrings, but nowhere near to working out the ending yourself. Very, v ...more
