Having read American Gods by Neil Gaiman I was a bit hesitant to read The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Why? Because I have mixed feelings about American Gods. On one side, it’s brilliant and imaginative, on another it’s dark and disturbing (don’t get me wrong, I like dark, AG just pushed it to a different level). A friend of mine talked me into reading The Ocean at the End of the Lane so I gave it a go. It wasn't quite what I expected. Yes, a bit dark and disturbing at times, but overall myster ...more

I didn't get this book. I felt like there were too many questions I wanted answered while reading it. For me things just appeared with no explanation or back story and some instances I wondered why even mention it. In the classic sense of the book, beginning plot mystery middle end, the book had all that. But things weren't explained properly. What

A perfect gem of a book about magic, memory, and the sometimes terrifying world of childhood. I could read it again and again.

I took me four days to read this as it just didn't keep me entertained. I came away from it thinking….hmmm what did I just read? It is a very odd book and maybe I am just too literal.

I did like the character of Lettie and her family.
