This book was a group read and I enjoyed it, even though I'm not a big fantasy fan. Marie Lu is a great writer and quite creative when it comes to inventing characters and medieval stories. I had some trouble visioning some of the scenes, clothing, and a few of the powerful 'gifts' the Elite Society used against their enemies. For those of us who don't watch fantasy movies or read them could use some illustrations to help us along as we can't always get into the writer's mind when he/she writes ...more

As a fan of the Legend trilogy, I was really looking forward to reading The Young Elites. Unfortunately, this story did not tickle my fancy as I had hoped. I think the biggest reason for this is that there is less here for men than there was in Legend. Instead of sharing equal time with the young man Day and the young woman June, The Young Elites focuses 97% on a single character named Adelina. Shelves: ya, hardcover, library, read-in-2015

This started off great! I love the action and the twist of our main character not being all "good". Unfortunately my main problem was our hero, Adelina. She was for me lackluster. I didn't like her, but I also didn't not like her. The drama that centered around her was boring. Mostly because it could have been easily avoided if only she would've spoken up. The romance, if you want to call it that, was blah.

Still confused about what happened at the end. It is the only reason why I will read book ...more
