Very enjoyable and I suggest reading the novellas leading to this story. Celaena is arrogant and stubborn. The novellas helped me understand her past and why she is the way she is. Otherwise I think I would have found her character to be less compelling and appealing. You realize that she is just a young girl who has had to fight (literally) most of her life and those hardships have made her thick skinned and wanting of nothing more than to be loved.

It was okay, I guess. It was a smooth read, but nothing that really pulls you in. The 'assassin' title felt more like a decoration more than anything. I didn't really feel the struggle to survive, just that she is a very emotional girl.

This book was an introduction more than anything and I imagine the next one would actually start gearing things towards a direction. It's a pity that we weren't given anything about Celaena that allowed me to sympathize with her as she sympathized the others.
