This book was unexpected. Unexpectedly good. The fast paced book took such unimagined turns, I couldn't do anything but keep reading in wonder. I think of trees and forests as good happy things, so having Naomi Novik turn them into horribly evil things that terrified me was a refreshing twist. I have always felt that the abstract unknown makes for scarier villains, and Uprooted is a case in point. The challenge, then, with such books is that the villain has to be understood in order to defeat it ...more

Enchanting. I found the writing to be a spell in itself and honestly, after I finished this book I was so at peace yet unable to gather my thoughts about it!

Excellent stand alone.
