I think this book is good enough to re-read. I will then provide a proper review while I drink a nice cuppa!!

I have finished for the second time... I hope I don't disappoint; I am drinking a cuppa wine, not tea!!

I have many favorite male heroes. Maisie Dobbs is my first female heroine... at least in recent memory **. Jacqueline Winspear has crafted a character, who, when she dies, will go to heaven and be declared a saint. As you can tell, I LOVE Maisie Dobbs. Her mentor, Maurice Blanche, comes

A really enjoyable start to a series. It was more than a mystery with lots of great period details and wonderful character building. I have read this novel twice now. I read the first few novels, and then moved on to other books and another series. When I thought about going back to the series, I wanted to do a reread so I could jog my memory on characters and story background. I decided to listen to them on audio,

Read this first in 2003 then again for f2f Mystery group in 2006. One of my favorite eras- the post WWI period when everything changed. I think this first Maisie is so effective and memorable because it takes us back to learn of her girlhood and subsequent service in the War before we get back to the 'present' when she hangs out her shingle as Psychologist and Investigator. It's this that sets her apart 'cause she's not content to solve the crimes- she needs to mend the psyche of her clients as ...more
