Definitely not what I expected. Very atmospheric and of the period. The language flowed but ultimately it seemed all show and little substance.. I guess it was illustrating that life is an arc like the trajectory of a thrown stone and you can't change it...maybe. I think what I liked most was the information about rooks/ravens and crows at each chapter head. I felt let down by the human story but found the bird lore fascinating.
