Update on December 24, 2020:
I listened to this on audio this time around; something a bit different for me. I enjoyed the narration quite a lot, but there's nothing that beats reading Dickens in print. This story never fails to cheer, inspire, and give me pause to reflect on those things that I hold most dear in my life. Here's to a 2021 that will hopefully shine much brighter than 2020!

I’ve written a review on this book before. You know, back when I wrote mostly proper reviews!? It was a good one for once, but it’s disappeared, so there! 5 Stars ⭐️

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is the current runaway leader for a reread in the group Catching up on Classics for December. As I gear up for what looks to be some intense reading during the last two months of the year, I decided to pre read this short classic this week. Being that I do not observe the Christmas holiday and can sometimes feel overwhelmed by its presence during the last six weeks of the year, I felt that it was better for me to read Dickens' classic early so I could keep an

Of course, I'd had this story read to me as a young child, and I'd read it myself in high school (or thereabouts), but my book group was looking for a work that was "seasonal." We decided to have an English Tea for our meeting and several members brought their children along. The younger set made a number of insightful comments. This is a true classic. We especially found it interesting to note that Dickens was writing of the effects of child abuse so many years ago.

I have seen the movie and also saw a play. I had never read the book!!
My recent completion of Mr. Dickens and His Carol convinced me that reading this book should be done.
I am so glad I did because the awakening of Mr. Scrooge to live a giving life is very appropriate for the Christmas season and New Year's resolutions.
I resolve to read at least one more book by Dickens in 2020.

I did it, I did it!!! I finally read this book and before Christmas Day ended. It is a story we all know well and could tell in our sleep as most of us watch a film version during the holidays. I have always put this novel off as Dickens is so depressing and I felt like since I knew the story maybe I would not enjoy it as much. From the first page I was hooked and I loved the narrator’s to ...more

I have read A Christmas Carol several times and have enjoyed it each time that I've read it.
Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by 4 ghosts in Victoria England on Christmas Eve. The miserly man undergoes a transformation as a result of these visits to Christmas Past, Present, and Future. I loved learning about Scrooge and why he becomes so miserly and how he realizes that it isn't too late to make a change in his life. I do admit that I find Tiny Tim a little saccharine but it is a wonderful classic wor ...more

I finally read this story (at least I don't ever remember reading it before) and while it was interesting, I think it lost it's luster after the many musicals and retellings I've seen and heard. The audio production with Jim Dale was good. Although I know many who reread this story often, once was enough for me.

Patrick Stewart has made the reading, nay, the performance of this Dickens' classic one of his calling cards. I was blessed some years ago to see him perform it on stage, and it truly is a performance. That vibrancy comes through in this reading, and in fact, he is what drew me to the audiobook over rereading the print version.
