Not a lot like the movie. A gentle, philosophical novel about one man, deeply damaged by WWI, who finds in Shangri-la his own perfect peace. Was it real or all a dream? My favorite quotes: "There was also in his nature a trait which some people might have called laziness, though it was not quite that. Noone was capable of harder work, when it had to be done, and few could better shoulder responsibility; but the fact remained that he was not passionately fond of activity and did not enjoy respon ...more
