I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I've been to Monticello so I really enjoyed the setting but now I really want to go back and see it again! I feel like I learned a lot about american history which is what I love about good historical fiction. I also appreciate when it feels like the authors did a thorough job of researching. The authors admit to taking a few liberties with information but I feel like any glimpse into the past involves some liberties with stories so I'm ok with it, as long as it's ...more

I wanted to stop reading after the 2nd chapter but since I’m in a book club I continued until the 28th when I just couldn’t take it anymore. If Patsy’s heart had fluttered one more time I might have found myself hoping it would stop beating all together. To me this book reads more like a romance novel than historical fiction.
