This is my second Maggie O'Farrell. The first, Hamnet, was astounding. This book pales in comparison.
It describes a VERY dysfunctional family living in London during a 1976 heatwave. Mom, Gretta; Dad, Robert; Children, Michael Francis, Monica and Aiofe (pronounced Efa). Dad disappears one day and the family does band together to find him.
There are scenes in New York and Ireland as well as London.
The heatwave seems to be a symbol of the dysfunctionality of the family.

This one just didn't work for me. I loved The Hand That First Held Mine so I guess I expected to love this one and I didn't. It wasn't horrible it just didn't grab me pretty much at all and it's not one I would probably ever recommend reading. Slow and not all that interesting.
