I have always enjoyed Kristin Harmel’s books. I have read many of them. This one has been on my TBR for a very long time. This is a WWII story with a lighter romantic side. Ruby is a young American woman who falls in love with a Frenchman and moves to Paris, not knowing that the war was about to begin. She doesn’t know Marcel that well they had a whirlwind romance and married quickly.

This was a fairly light read about the French resistance against Germany during WW2. I say 'light' because I never got the full sense of the terror and the hardships that those within this time experienced. They were there, no question, but I never connected deeply with the characters to really get a deep down feel for their struggles. I feel like the work camp experience was fairly lightly drawn out as well. I've read a lot of fiction set in these times and this just didn't give me that raw ...more

In one of the apartments on the Rue Amelie lived an American married to a Frenchman. In another is a Jewish family with a young daughter. The Frenchman, Marcel, is engaged in a clandestine effort to help downed RAF pilots to escape France and return to England so they can fly again. When Marcel disappears, his American wife, Ruby, undertakes this hazardous duty. The situation becomes complicated when a downed RAF pilot shows up at Ruby’s doorstep.
