WOW! I really didn't think I would like this book. I put off reading it for so long because I'm not usually into witch books, but I "LOVE" this book! This book is a good sized book at 579 pages. I was not bored at one time reading this book. There are just so many things the author has for you to learn that you really don't have time to think "get on with it."

Enjoyable and entertaining. In reality I would give this 3.5 stars, but there were two characters introduced late in the story that I just adored that pushed me to round up to 4 rather than down to 3 stars : the Bishop House in Madison, NY (and it is a fully realized character) and the cat Tabitha. The story and even the characters are so derivative that even I who do not read much in this genre can name the numerous inspirations. But it was still a fun read. I also really liked the locations -

"Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library. Diana has stumbl ...more

This book is the Twilight series but on a much higher level. It is very well-written and well-researched. I enjoyed it very, very much and can't wait for book 2 of the trilogy!
