I found this to be a painful read on both occasions that I read it.
The development and flow of the story were cumbersome at best. The characters
were dismally unlikable. I've heard reference to Heathcliff and Catherine's romance as tragic, but it was abusive and dysfunctional. I couldn't help but not root for this horribly shallow and arrogant couple. This is my least favorite Brontë novel from the three sisters. ...more

First let me say, the cover on this edition is artwork. It's gorgeous from flap to flap which is what really attracted me back to this book. 1.5 STARS
"This is the story of a tormented foundling who falls in love with the daughter of his benefactor, and of the violence and misery that result from their thwarted longing for each other." (From Amazon)

Read as class assignment in high school. Guess I thought it was OK back then as my diary gave it 3 stars. More recent attempt at a reread was not so good. What must have felt wildly romantic once upon a time now has me wanting to get those two some medical care (bipolar??) asap. Now if I had to give a rating it would be one star.
