In all honestly, I was somewhat disappointed in the book. I loved The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women and immediately bought this book when it was released, hoping and expecting the same riveting experience as I had with the other book. While I feel the author does a good job presenting us with a woman from history that I don't think many have ever heard of, a strong, effective and courageous woman whom I'm happy to have learned about, the writing just didn't work for me. ...more

Years ago I read another book about Mrs Packard The Private War of Mrs. Packard and never forgot it. A GR group chose this new title for discussion so I was interested to see how it matched up. I recalled the older book as having more focus on her legal and political battles for married women’s rights whereas this book spent much more time on her experiences in the insane asylum.
