What Members Thought

Blink, and the years fall away like leaves.

Adeline had wanted to be a tree.
To grow wild and deep, belong to no one but the ground beneath her feet, and the sky above, just like Estele. It would be an unconventional life, and perhaps a little lonely, but at least it would be hers. She would belong to no one but herself.

Day breaks like an egg yolk, spilling light across the field.

"Your freckles look like stars."...more
Addie smiles. "I’ve heard. My own little constellation. It’s the first

Absolutely amazing. At the end, you realize that the book you just finished is not the same as what you started reading, that you the reader have been taken on a wondrous journey.
The plot is deceptively simple: Adeline "Addie" Larue at the age of 23 makes a deal with a night god a/k/a a devil exchanging her soul for her freedom and to escape an arranged marriage. It gives her immortality but at a cost making the deal a curse: no one remembers her after initial contact and she's unable to write, ...more

This is a book that urges you to consider, not only what you wish for, but also the little things we often take for granted in our lives. Schwab's imagination with this tale is unbelievable and I loved the thought of the power in a name and the image of the "darkness" being who we desire. It was intricate and "deep" on a variety of levels. I felt it also had some nuances of the Midnight Library, by Matt Haig. ----A very, enjoyable and introspective read.

I loved this story that featured two complicated main characters, unlovable most of the time but had their redeeming selfless moments. Addie, our main character, makes a deal with ‘the devil,’ Luc. The agreement is immortality without any lasting relationships, romantic or otherwise, as nobody remembers Addie. This is not precisely what Addie had in mind, and she lives a difficult 300 years and has a tumultuous relationship with Luc. This is Addie’s life until she meets Henry, a character I sinc ...more

Reading about Addie was somehow exactly what I expected. I didn't know anything about the book before diving in, but it fit me like a glove.
I savored this one, took my time reading, turned over every word and made this story into a comforting blanket. Now I'm kind of stuck at work, holding back tears. It will take a while for me to process this one :')
