What Members Thought

Welcome to women’s history month 2025. This year is going to look a little different. I still have a number of books by women authors that I hope to get through this year, but it is not going to be exclusively women authors. We live in an era where thankfully women no longer have to write under pseudonyms to get published although some still do. We also live in a time where women are educated and their level of writing is stronger than ever. Because I live where women can now freely express them

Poirot is at the dentist for a cleaning, though of course it's never just a cleaning as there always seem to be fillings needed. The entire first chapter is a really well-portrayed series of scenes of people dreading the dentist, arriving there and enduring their visits, and of course a great portrait of the dentist himself. Poirot's observations are among those we share. Then the call from Inspector Japp of Scotland Yard the next day -- Mr. Morley is dead! Shot in the head by his own hand!

Book on CD read by Hugh Fraser.
Even Hercule Poirot hates to go to the dentist, but a toothache requires attention, so he visits Dr Morley’s offices. A few hours after leaving, he is called back to the dentist’s surgery – to examine the body of the dentist, an apparent suicide. But as Poirot begins to interview the other patients who also visited the dentist that same morning, he finds more questions than answers.

I enjoy when Inspector Poirot and DCI Japp work together. If you ever feel like you're going to die when you go to the dentist this book might really scare you out of your wits. 😊 📚 As always is the case, you'll find this story has an intricate plot and unexpected twists. A few of these twists surprised me at the end.

I've rated this as 4 stars. I enjoyed this classic Agatha Christie, but do not consider it to be one of her best. I very much like the atmosphere of middle to upper class English society portrayed in Agatha Christie books.
There are lots of possible suspects and motives for the multiple murders in "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe" and the reader is kept guessing right until the end. However, I didn't find the ending very satisfactory as it was quite convoluted and didn't ring true to me.
