One of the best things about this book was having no idea what was coming so I won't reveal too much. As a fan of alternative reality science fiction and a good dystopian novel who has seen a lot of Attenborough documentaries one of the most appealing things about TGWATG was how realistic it was. It really is reminiscent of Kazuo Ishiguro. Carey obviously has a great knowledge of his subject and has clearly done his research so when he mentions destinations that are familiar or references a docu ...more

This is one of those books that has a freaking amazing blurb, and lots of folks say "I went into it without knowing much about it". And somehow, this gets caught up in the blogo/booko-sphere and everyone else says the same thing: it's best to go in not knowing much about this book. This means that sometimes, it is hard to find a review that gets to the nitty gritty.

Well, screw that. I am going to review this like any book because I think you know what you are getting. If you don't want to know w

Utterly terrifying. Matilda meets Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind meets 28 days later.

there's nothing wrong with this book. this is totally a "me" thing. I started this in December 2014 and have only just finished it. it made me uncomfortable and occasionally physically ill. Carey's writing was vivid and imaginative and gritty and addictive. but for some reason I could not get through the last half of the book. I was so bored and reading it over such a long period of time made me feel emotionally distant from all of the characters. if I had pushed through my discomfort and read t ...more

This is the first book I have found 'unputdownable' in a long time. It was very different for me but I enjoyed it a lot. The only reason this isn't 5/5 is that I found that the ending was quite rushed and the last third as a whole was poorly paced. Do not read this book at night. It's creepy and gross. I read the free version for kindle. It was a page turner as you wanted to know more. ...more

Entertaining read, nothing new in the undead genre, but liked how the author ended the story. Bleak but not a complete end to the world.
