01/29/2019: Read for the second time. (Did not review the first time.)
This review contains minor SPOILERS. Read at your own risk.
It is exceedingly hard to speak to the brilliance that is this series. That is Leigh Bardugo and her magic-touched, clever mind. This is my second time reading this series and I am just as in awe of it as I was the first time around. I finished it for the first time three years ago, and it has ever been on my mind since then. There are ample reasons why.

"Like calls to like."
Although I love this series, this one was darker and took a very different turn than I was expecting.
And the strange words and locations - it is my biggest complaint and frustration with Fantasy books. This one was especially hard for me, right around the middle, when there were 15 - 20 foreign words with definitions on each small kindle page. It just seems so pointless to have this weird language thrown in when I get the definition right after it.

Alina story continues as of course she fights her way from the Darkling grip. On her journey she's meeting new people other Grisha all that's willing to follow her and help with her army if she's to return back to Os Alta.
Returning and getting those Grisha that's left approval wasn't easy
With Mal trying to find his place in Alina's life follow by jealousy. They relationship become rocky.
Great second book. Got to learn more about more people even the Royal people too.
The ending was mind blowing ...more

WOW WOW WOW, this book was nonstop action packed. I truly never thought a series like this would ever be "my thing" but I am so pleasantly surprised just how much I love this series. I am so in love with the way Leigh Bardugo writes that my next book, after this trilogy, will be her newest called Six of Crows. If you want to try a fast paced fantasy book this trilogy is the one to try. You will not be disappointed at all. Amazing book from start to finish.

This is second book in the Grisha trilogy and i admit i read the first one a while back so i did a re read before i picked this one up and of course i picked the series back up cause King of Scars is coming out at the end of this month January 2019.
Now do any of you do that are you notorious for starting a series but then you don't have the next one or it not out yet. So you go along and then you never get back to it? Yeah i really bad about that but i do love when a series i thought was done ge ...more

I like Nikolai. I don't much like Alina. I don't like the Darkling at all, and all his "unhappy childhood", BS, doesn't justify anything. Millions of people have unhappy childhood without becoming psychopaths. I like Mal.
And I kind of like these books. Still reading, huh :-D ...more
