I loved M.M. Kaye three priceless, magnificent historical fictions (The Far Pavilions, Shadow of the Moon, Trade Wind). They are of those books I would take to a desert island.

I have seen Kaye's philosophical views in 'Death in Kashmir'. Her observant eye and wise review of the political world, how it changed etc.

Moreover, there was humour a bit and I liked (I find it interesting) the reasons for the main mystery plot. You can also see she knew the places she described.

I wanted to like this book, and it was off to a good start, but I found myself slogging toward page 50 and it was even worse trying to move on. I usually enjoy books from this period, but Death in Kashmir was an exception. The set up was good and the descriptions of place vivid, but the characters were bland and the plot seemed to meander rather than move forward. I couldn't stick with it. Not recommended. ...more

Fantastically splendid romantic mystery. Readers who adore Mary Stewart’s work will enjoy this novel! Highly recommend!
