I happened upon this book at a book sale and got it really cheap. I really loved how the author mixed historical facts into the fiction. This book had all of my favorite things: Victorian London, Jack the Ripper, Count Dracula, sex, intrigue and action! What a great roller coaster ride for the imagination.

The storytelling and use of characters and legends from all sorts of things had me pretty captivated. The late Victorian setting, plus all of the gore and general darkness is pretty much my exact aesthetic. However, since I had read this before reading Bram Stoker's Dracula, I wasn't really aware of the literary background. Victorian London, Jack the Ripper and Dracula. How is it that I haven't read this book sooner? Many of the names and places are familiar. But oh my, I'm intrigued by the way the world has changed. Why was this not made into a movie? Or better yet a series? Such possibilities.

Started reading Dec 2017; after 2 chapters, putting it aside. It's an alternate history of "Dracula"—what would have happened if Dracula won, and managed to make new vampires. But it's very confusing, trying to figure out not only the new characters but the old ones as well, and the alternate plot.

Good idea for a book. Too bad a good writer didn't think of it first.
