It is truly amazing, with all the vampire books I have been devouring lately, that it took me this long to read the one that kind of sets the standard for vampires.
The story is chilling in that wonderful , creepy Victorian way. More than the presence of the monster, what scares me the most is the sheer isolation of the place and time. Right from the beginning,Jonathan Harker is in an out-of-the-way castle in an out-of-the-way part of Eastern Europe, and hello, folks, there are no cell phones or ...more

I can't believe it took me so long to read this since I love vampire books. I really enjoyed it. I love the diary style story. I can see why it was so popular. And of course, it was nice to have a truly evil vamp for a change.

The story is truly a classic tale set in 1897. There were parts of this book that terrified me. I've came home after dark a few times while in the middle of this book and actually looked over my shoulder because I noticed it was a full moon. There were parts of it that totally captivated but, unfortunately, there were areas where the Stoker lost me but I'm sure that was due to the time period difference. I wish the ending had been a bit more drawn out, I think. Although dramatic, it didn't have

I have always adored the "Dracula" movies that have been released, but to read the book was a great experience. I'm amazed at how close the Movie "Bram Stokers Dracula" stuck to the book.
The characters Bram Stoker created where wonderful and easy to relate to. I felt myself cheering them on in their pursuit of Dracula. :0)
I did find it a bit of a slow read due to the amount of detail given and having to refer to the notes in the back of the book on and off to find the meaning of certain phrases, ...more

Ooh yeah. I heart this book.
Jonathan Harker, solicitor-in-training, visits Transylvania and is imprisioned by the mysterious Count Draclua. He escapes, though too late to warn his friends. Lucy, best friend of Harker's fiance Mina, dies mysteriously from blood loss before he gets home. He, Mina, Doctor Seward, and Doctor Abraham Van Helsing join forces against the evil villan and defeat him.
Ok, so this review doesn't really do the book justice. You just gotta read it. ...more
