This has been on my reading list forever, and I'm so glad I finally got to it. I'm always worried that mysteries will keep me up at night, but this one was so leisurely paced, the detectives actually took a holiday in the middle of the mystery--which totally made it my kind of mystery. Also compelling: the feisty, intellectual narrator Mary Russell and her relationship to her mentor, Sherlock Holmes; the strong sense of place, particularly the descriptions of Oxford and the English countryside;
