Every year, there comes a day when I start thinking of this book again and feel compelled to re-read it. I have tried to read Persuasion a few times and never got past chapter 1. It's still not my favourite Jane Austen, though it definitely grew on me. I found Anne quite irritating in her perfection, which made it hard. Austen remains a genius at describing characters, especially their flaws, though I felt it was less amused and arch than her other boooks.

In this novel Jane Austen uses some real caricatures to contrast with the goodness of Anne Elliot, I think this novel is the closest to the style adopted by Charles Dickens because of this.
