I don't know why I'm surprised every time. I love the epic long Stephen King books that aren't horror books. Psychological thriller, yes. Horror, no. Actually, reading the non-horror books by King just further confirms my decision not to read his horror stories because he is such a darn good author and I know he would scare the bejeezus out of me. This book really messed with my head. I was having really strange dreams and had to finally just sit down and finish it so that I could have some closure.
It's an epic and probably King's best (I've read a lot, but not all). Lots of themes and disturbing ideas about the nature of humanity. I got bored in the middle section where they were setting up their committees and new government, but the last third definitely made up for that.
