A fantastic book. This was the first book that introduced Agent Pendergast, Vincent D'Agosta, Margo Green and Bill Smithback - great characters and a great plot. It showed off Preston & Child's unique way of combining science and horror together. The film was a HUGE disappointment (I would have preferred someone like Mary Stuart Masterson as Margo Green) and they left out Smithback, who at time time, I thought Oliver Platt would have been great - he has so many great one-liners in this book. After reading some of the Pendergast series books out of order, I am finally starting from the first in the series, which this book is. Being the first in the series, it explained the background on the characters that I read in the other books. So now is makes better sense. Like the other Preston/Child team books, this kept me on the edge of my seat. Although, I will say that some parts are pretty gruesome (it's not for the squeamish) it's very suspenseful. I like the way the characters work tog ...more

A small introduction to Pendergast in this novel, and it just goes on from there. I am in love with a fictional character, and that's Agent Pendergast. The books are thrilling, he's thrilling, he's BRILLIANT, he's eccentric, he's marvelous, the books are also, and I'm foaming at the mouth now so I'll shut up. Just do yourself a favor and start this series. PLEASE. ...more

I've read this book once before and I loved it. So I'm reading it again. Fast paced. Science fiction. Starting at the beginning of the Pendergast series.

Finished it last night for the second time. Loved it as much the second time around. Forgot a lot and kept thinking of the movie as I went along. Much much better then the movie. Leaves you on the edge of your seat!

The book was long, and somewhat dragged out. It actually has taken me about two years to finish it. I was surprised at the end with the suggestion that the author leaves in my mind about scientific possibilities. I guess I enjoyed the end...a sort of "I'm finally done" feeling! Not my favorite in the author's writings. ...more

My favorite book of all time. I really love this book. I think I have read it 4 or 5 times. It is really quite scary and gruesome, but what a brilliant cast of characters! Plus it takes place in a museum, which gets extra points in my nerd book!
