Having just finished this book I was very thrilled with it. And I have to acknowledge that I read it in about 3 days. It kept me moving through it. But after reading a few reviews I also find that there were things missing in this book that first got me into the books. First of all a large portion of this book was actually written from Judson Esterhazy's point of view. Which is not new. Several of the previous books treat Pendergast as if he is an unreadable character. We are often left watching

I am still in love with this series, but after this and "Fever Dream", Preston and Child are pushing it. While it is nice to know Pendergast has a soft side and there was someone he loved, ehhhh. Ultimately, do I really care? Sometimes too much backstory gets in the way.
The plot twists and turns are just too unbelievable and the violence is really ratcheted up for this one. How many times can this man miraculously save himself from some horrible injury, on the brink of death? How many contact ...more

Nothing in Preston and Child's chilling novels will prepare you for the horrendous realization that the sequel to this novel won't come out until November!!! Do NOT read this without having read Fever Dream; this one picks up immediately after it (like one novel split in two) and if you want to spare yourself the agony that I am experiencing, don't read it until the next tome is safely ensconced on your reading shelf!

Well, I was right about the twin business. I don't know where they are going with this trilogy, but despite it not being quiet what I imagined (or didn't imagine)I've missed Pendergast and am glad I've got a chance to read some new material. I'm excited for the next one and hope Preston & Child write faster.

Liked this book. Didn't think Pendergast was as crisp in
this one as in past books. It's a trilogy! Have to
wait for another year to read the 3rd one. Interested
to see where some of the cliffhangers are heading. ...more

While I do agree with some readers who did not like the "Die Hard" Pendergast, I still thoroughly enjoyed the book. I love the characters and the development of them over time. Of course this book is the 2nd of a trilogy so NOTHING is resolved. Sigh... Still a wonderful engaging read if you like the thriller genre.
