Although at times I wished this novel moved a little faster I really enjoyed it. One of the primary messages in the book is that you are the master of your own destiny. The idea that your life isn't so much what happens to you, but how you react to the events of your life is very powerful. I was also pleasantly surprised, based on when the novel was written, that the author took a broad view of "God", "The Magic", "The Big Good Thing" or whatever someone happens to call it. Re-reading this again was absolutely delightful and so pleasant to read in the spring on vacation. Mary is quite contrary. It's a unique aspect of her which I love. Dickon grows so strong that it is quite beautiful and at the same time though,secretly a little jealous worthy. I like Martha more than Dickon. Mary changed the tragedies of The Manor all due to her curiosity,a powerful and life-changing tool.
