I saw the movie that was based on this book back when it came out and was intrigued by the story. I was too young (elementary school age) to remember when the actual news story came out about Chris McCandless and his ill-fated journey into the Alaskan wilderness, so the movie was my first I'd heard of it. The book has been on my to-read list ever since. It's a short read (200 pages), so I finally decided to pick it up.

I was anxious to read this book once I saw the previews for the movie. The library had an excessive amount of holds on it, so I had to go out and purchase it. It was definitely worth the $$.
The style was interesting as it is not a novel in the sense you are used to. This is almost written moreso in the format of an article or research paper. This makes sense as the book came out of a magazine article Krakauer wrote.

I LOVED this movie, BUT I didn't like the book as much. The author inserted much of his own perspective into this, and I wasn't really digging those parts. It was well written, but I just really enjoyed the movie more.
