The Dark Half in Read the Movie

One of the reasons I read this book is because my husband told me it was his favorite Stephen King book. (I should have asked him/considered how many of King's books he'd read in total when he came to this conclusion) Therefore I was excited to finally read this one because when someone close to me says "This is my favorite Stephen King book" and seeing as how I have been on this non-stop over a year long S. King reading marathon extravaganza, a glowing recommendation like that, coming from my husband, is one I paid attention to. This is my 16th King book and around my 7th one this year. I have a few top favorite King books already and this one didn't topple any of the reigning champs so far. But still let me point out what I DID like and why this was bumped up from a 3.5 to a 4 star rating.

The 3.5 bumped up to 4 right at the very end. I at first wasn't digging the ending because it didn't feel satisfying. But then I listened to the EPILOGUE (I listened to the audiobook version of the entire book)

1. The EPILOGUE is what left me feeling satisfied in the journey I took. (view spoiler)

2. I love when King references himself and his other works. I don't always recognize the references if it's a book/film I haven't read yet. What is satisfying about King for his loyal readers is the more you become a constant reader and read his work, the more you get the reward of "getting" his inside references to himself and his work when he slips those in. In this story there certainly were a few like (view spoiler)

3. The beginning of the book had some very (view spoiler) I brought this up to my husband about how "gross" or "graphic" I thought (view spoiler) and he absolutely agreed. Perhaps this is one of the reasons he liked it so much because the book can grab you like that and demand your attention. In many ways that was the way George Stark himself was. I know there is a movie version of this out there and as I've done with all the King books I've been reading, watching the movie version is now on my "to watch" list. Though as always, I'm prepared that the movie version could not possibly live up to the book 100% but knowing this it will be okay, as I want to see the film regardless.

Thad is a writer who didn't have much success until he wrote a series under a pseudonym, George Stark. After his success with the George Stark books, Thad decided to "kill" Stark and try his luck once again under his own name. Then people connected to Thad start getting murdered by someone who looks and acts suspiciously like the fictional George Stark. Is Stark a real person or just a figment of Thad's imagination?
