The great thing about the book is that it has more side stories than can fit in the movie. Plus, being a book, there is no need to give a visual affectation to the masquerading character so that we can recognize him and understand what causes the other characters to do the same. Instead, the book gives the occasional clue to the identity, but otherwise, is full of seemingly unrelated events that suddenly converge at the end.
