John Fowles is a literary genius! This is my second experience with his literature and he has won himself a lifelong fan! The French Lieutenant's Woman is an incredibly poignant story of a Victorian gentleman's life and ventures in his early 30s. The characters are well-written and Fowles really has a specialty for human nature. I would definitely recommend this novel!

This is one captivating story. We have all heard of those sad scary stories where 'In the lonely darkness of a moonlit seashore, a woman dressed in white, looks far into the sea, with forlorn eyes, waiting for her love to come back to her.' And here, is where that particular inspiration might have stuck. The descriptions are rich, emotions are caught and even the story has it's flavor throughout.
