I really enjoyed this novel despite it's dark theme and disturbing incidents. I am intrigued by the idea that everyone may live in their own personal Heaven. How could one place be Heaven for everyone? I thought the author did a nice job of examining grief and loss from multiple points of view. I found the charachters flawed and yet likable. I rooted for the Salmon family and all those touched by their tragedy. In the end I would classify this book as life affirming and inspirational.

I enjoyed the first 30% of this book, max. Then it got long and tedious with no interesting developments in the plot. I held out as long as I could b/c I wanted to see how it would end (and the author had a random way of revealing details), but I finally gave up close to the end.
This book was very well written and from a perspective that would be difficult for most authors to write. Alice Sebold is a wonderful author and I can't wait to read more by her!
