My favorite aspect of this book was that you learn the big metaphor relatively early, allowing you to enjoy it more and more as the book goes on. When I started the book, I didn't know how much I'd enjoy it. The narrator is an inmate in the asylum (ingenious---the characters think he is deaf, so they let him sit in on all the secret meetings, etc., and almost never interact with him), and he starts the book off with some "crazy talk."
