Let me start off with I loved this movie when it came out. It tied Zero Dark Thirty for my favorite movie of that year and.... the book is so different than the movie. That said, I love the book as well! The movie took snippets of the book and emphasized certain areas that were just a couple chapters of the whole story, giving us a fairy tale romance that Pat strived for throughout the whole book that wasn't how real life worked. The book went much further into character development and allows t

What a thoroughly puzzling novel! The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick was not at all what I was expecting. I did not watch the movie... thought I'd read the novel first. I adore Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, so I really thought I'd dig the novel.
It's about Pat Peoples, a recent patient of "the bad place" which is how Pat refers to the mental home he lived in for the past 4 years. He has completely blocked out the memories of what led to his being sent to "the bad place", but he ...more

It is always a bit more enjoyable when you can identify with the setting of a book, easy to picture exactly what the author is talking about. It's also a good thing that I am a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan as there was quite a lot of football talk and the Eagles chant going on here, maybe a bit too much for non fans.
I found the characters so realistic and endearing in all of their quirky ways, they reminded me a lot of the people I grew up around. Pat Peoples has spent a few years in a neura ...more

I watched the movie before I read the book, and unfortunately couldn't get Bradley Coopers face out of my head when reading about Pat Peoples - yet somehow he didn't fit the bill.
The book had some really funny and heartfelt moments, but overall I didn't feel that I could connect with any of the characters. I guess I don't have a clear enough understanding of the mental condition the main character had and hence struggled to understand where he was coming from. In certain parts of the book, it s ...more

I hate to say it but...I really didn't like the book so much. But because "I am being nice & not right"...I am giving it 3 stars. I nominated this for my book club because I saw the movie & thought it was adorable. I loved the chemistry between Pat & Tiffany. It was believable. The book was full of football stats (boring). The only parts of the book I enjoyed were when Pat & Tiffany were together. I have to say this is the first time I have liked a movie over a book (weird).
