Fave quotes:
"In desperate love, we always invent the characters of our partners, demanding that they be what we need of them, and then feeling devastated when they refuse to perform the role we created in the first place." (18)
"When I get lonely these days, I think: so be lonely, Liz. Learn your way around loneliness. Make a map of it. Sit with it, for once in your life. Welcome to the human experience. But never again use another person's body or emotions as a scratching post for your own unfu ...more

I hated this book. Yeah, who couldn't have a life-changing experience if a big magazine was footing the bill. The author isn't much of a writer. Her epiphanies, well. . .aren't. She is self absorbed and not very observant of the life going on around her. Definitely a candidate for a book burning. . . .

I must admit, I'm lying when I've said I've read this, but not for lack of trying. I started reading this book earlier in the year, but then had to read more when it was assigned by my bookclub. Even then, I couldn't finish reading about a lonely divorcee who travels the globe in search of herself, all the while whining about how messed up she is. I didn't get to the ending, but I really hope she found her inner peace and is happy so she doesn't feel the need to write another book.

I am only giving 3 stars. I think that once it came out as a movie and got all the hype it did, I was slightly disappointed. Had I read it when it was originally on my reading list a few years ago, I may have had a different opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the other cultures and I loved some of the lines in the book. Overall, a good read; but not what I was hoping for.

Very spiritually insightful. It teaches the reader to work one or two aspects of their nature,or good nature,or to find oneself before committing to a relationship. Young adults should read this book despite it being about a woman in her thirties.

Fantastic book about starting over after a divorce. Finding yourself, and great travel descriptions. I totally rec. this book.
