I enjoyed the book, but was expecting so much more. The book took away all the great scenes on the ocean waiting for the shark & focused more on the characters lives. (well I should say the movie gave us all the great scenes on the ocean - not that the book took them away since it was after-all written first!). I've seen this movie in only a vague sense of the word. I'm sure I've seen every part, but never all at once and in the right order. And it's been years. So I felt like I was coming to this book unbiased. It ended up working pretty well for me. It definitely held my attention; I read it almost literally without putting it down. There was just the right amount of death and violence and ruin to make an interesting story. And I especially liked where the narrative left off. ...more
